Knife Defence and Bladed Weapons

Welcome to this page about the Filipino martial arts of Eskrima, Kali, and Arnis.

Knife defence

  The Filipino martial arts are considered to have very practical methods of knife defence and are utilised by a number of military and police forces around the world. Although it should be noted that knife attacks are extremely dangerous and avoidance or escape should always be the preferred methods of protection.

  Training consists of awareness, evasion, blocking/parrying, locking, and disarming.

Bladed Weapons

  Bladed weapons are an integral part of the Filipino martial arts. This includes knives, and swords, and a variety of medium sized bladed weapons. For example the Filipinos were well known for there 'Bolo Brigades' during World War Two. Espada y Daga or Sword and Dagger are also part of the Filipino martial arts and were influenced by fencing when the Spanish invaded and colonized the Phillipines. In fact Eskrima is actually from 'Esgrime', the Spanish word for fencing.
